Broadway boycotts Red Vanessa

Not for the first time, Vanessa Redgrave's principled left-wingery has got in the way of her acting career. The noted firebrand is unable to find a New York venue willing to let her star in a production of the hit play Breath of Life.

Producer Robert Fox recently asked several prominent theatres to host a revival of the show, co-starring Maggie Smith, later this year. Unfortunately, most have already declined, citing Redgrave's pronouncements on Israel.

"The Schubert Organisation, who own Broadway's biggest venues, won't do the play with Redgrave in it," I'm told. "It's a nightmare for Fox, as he always uses Schubert houses, and they also invest in his shows."

"He's now faced with having to either re-cast, or trawl around for an alternative theatre, and investors."

Oh I don't think the reason is her being a leftie. God knows, New York is a snake pit of crazy "BusHitler" crowd. Letting it be publicly known you voted Republican last election is commiting harakiri; theater world is not an exception. If anything, she'd be applauded.

But here's a thing: some Jews in New York still aren't sufficiently brainwashed and don't feel ashamed of being a Jew and loving Israel. You wouldn't know it, reading all commentary from academic and media crowd, but yes, there is this strange natural phenomenon.
In any case, I'm glad. We have our own Vanessa here in America, Hanoi Jane (http://www.1stcavmedic.com/jane_fonda.htm), and that's quite enough.

I don't think it's for being a leftie either. Most of the actors are left-wing and pro-palestinian, that's not a reason enough to boycott them. She is just a toxic cow, as someone here has aptly noted. :-)

For me hating Vanessa is not at all about Israel, most of the actors are pro-Palestinian to one degree or another. It's about being a complete, utter monster, which she demonstrated beyond all reasonable doubt after Beslan.

А насчет Беслана, вот я нашла свой комментарий (обратите внимание, что дело было вечером 4-го, когда уже все было известно про детей).


Редгрейв - фантастическая тварь. Если мы смотрели одно и то же интервью, журналист забегал и справа, и слева, и кругами, давая ей все возможности осудить *этот конкретный акт терроризма*. Но она была не готова осудить даже на том уровне на котором Арафат осуждает теракты в Израиле - "наше дело правое, но детей убивать нехорошо". Даже такой фразы он не смог от нее добиться, она продолжала твердить про правое чеченское дело.
