Peter and Helen".

Instead of mocking- I mean, "quoting" :-) - me, you'd better sit back and enjoy the following:

1) That's what God would have built - if he'd had enough money for it
(about a mansion as big as half of the Long Island)

2) Did you need these 17-century original works?
-I wanted them.
-That a difference between "need" and "want"
- Not for me!
an excerpt of a dialogue between the head of the Hearst media empire and his mistress (1939)

3)

So, do you believe that my greatest masterpiece is already done, and I'll burn down at the tender age of 26?
-All stars do burn down, it's the flame that counts!
- To the flame, then!

Orsson Welles - to his friend and co-scriptwright on the first night of
"Citizen Kane" (1939)

:-))

I don't do mocking. :-)

And sorry, but the connection was lost on me. I don't really have an opinion on Orson Welles as an actor.

Oh, no connection whatsoever :-) Just wanted to share these pretty amazing quotations out of "PRQ-281" featuring the struggle between the media dictator William Hearst and the young genius Orsson Welles. In this movie the latter was a character, not an actor!
As to connections, it's a pity we seem to disagree on Kevin Kostner :-) But well...

Sorry, I can't take him seriously after Robin Hood and his histrionics about the film's editing.

There is nothing to be sorry about - it goes w/out saying that you are perfectly entitled to your own opinion. As to taking someone seriously, I would consider it wise to tell one's personality from hir talent and professional skills.
In the latter area- within his own domain- KK seems to be second to nobody.

I'd consider it to be a part of one's professional skills. Of course if your profession is an actor, as opposed to spoiled primadonna.
I read in an interview of Edward Blake, I think, about shooting the first Pink Panther movie. Which was supposed to be a vehicle for the hero, played by David Niven. The director was amazed by Niven's reaction to being acted off screen by Sellers, and the movie's whole focus shifting to Sellers.
But then again, Niven was not only a professional actor but also a perfect gentleman.

S- We'll have to disagree on that. One's professional skills are seen on the screen (stage, pitch etc)and they have nothing to do with one's self-evaluation or behavior. Just like Francesco Totti may be an uncouth, half-illiterate block AND a great football-player, it's possible to be a pathetic person, a lousy director (or even performer of certain parts like Robin Hood) AND an acting genius -within one's scope. I have no means to judge about the former, but I have seen the latter with my own eyes. It's easier to adore a gentleman, but it doesn't take one to be a God-inspired actor.

Actually, footballers are a great example - as with actors, their personality can influence the result of their labours. Didn't Totti's spitting episode put his team at disadvantage? Hadn't Beckham's little "let's kick the argentinian" moment put his team out of competition?
You can be a really rotten person off screen, but not let it influence the movie you are making, I'm not talking about that. But when it distracts from the movie, I count it as a lack of professionalism.

S- Probably, the best way to sum it up. One's negative personality shouldn't be allowed to hurt the quality of hir job. That would be characteristic of bad professionals- in any area of activity. I am not sure if you have actually seen those movies I mentioned (including "Untouchables"), but believe me, KK's
performance in all of them was quite outstanding. That means he has it in him. I wouldn't pass a judgement on his directing abilities or even those acting attempts I haven't seen (like Robin Hood) but even if he doesn't always do justice to his enormous talent, it can't detract from his actual potential already proven more than once, so to say. That's why I believe that within his scope, he is a genius. Taking into consideration your factual correction, I would compromise on an
INCONSISTENT GENIUS :-)
