You mean FTP-site? I'm told to use it ONLY in extraordinary circs: "it requires a password which my boss is not prepared to reveal to me yet".

FTP is the simplest, and honestly a bit outdated.
When used with password, it's clear text password transfer and hence insecure.
When used without password, you don't have any security at all.

No, I'd rather use SharePoint. Many companies use it these days.

you realise I'm not in the position to advice my boss, right?

Nope. Sorry...

I am quite accustomed to giving advice to bosses, that's why I could have a slight misunderstanding.

That's because you don't work in architectural office.
Architects, typically, have huge ego and don't allow anybody to advice them - unless they pay you specifically for this purpose (like one-time IT consultant, etc)

Ha, tell me about that :) ask me how I know!

My wife is an architect and she's spent several years working in a London architectural firm. I can totally agree with you that architects are a very peculiar public. And, being bright, she was even in position to give great advice to her superiours -- just for them to ignore it and doing everything as THEY fit right -- just because they are The Boss or The Man or The Owner. It was totally impossible to change their minds.

Eventually to prevent frustration I adviced her to quit :) She's happier now, definitely.

Things she told me they *come & demand* off their IT guys would be quickly deemed unreasonable in my company and with me. But then, everybody chooses for themselves.

You got it.
Actually, they learn to behave like that in design school: I remember being taught to "be assertive an dinsist on your opinion", either in everyday business environment or in dealing with Client.

That's how they stay in business, I guess...

It was very interesting to listen to her stories, "a view from inside". She's been told the same, I guess, because her assertiveness is sometimes overwhelming!

But I guess sometimes they have to defer to boss's name. The Boss is right there even if he's clearly wrong. So not unheard of is, when the Boss is really overproud, for more reasonable folks to just route all the information around the Boss, to actually complete the project at all and get stuff DONE instead of endless corrections as the Boss' right leg thinks fit.

I do feel for IT folks working for the architectural companies. Seriously :)
